Viktor Majerik – Marián Servátka: Pastierik on the Golden Cart. Tales from Zamagurie.
Be the first to learn about other tales that once formed an integral part of the traditional culture of inhabitants of Zamagurian wooden cottages. The book offers a collection of twenty tales – the already published tale by Viktor Majerik Pastierik on the Golden Cart and 9 unpublished tales from his legacy, as well as 10 tales derived from the research work of Marián Servátka in the territory of Zamagurie villages that were annexed to Poland in 1920. You will be able to meet the authors Marián Servátka, illustrator Martin Kellenberger, Milica Majerikova-Molitoris and Ingrid Majerikova, who edited the tales literarily, on the eve of the official book launch.

19:00 – 20:45 / amphitheater, Dance and music program of folklore ensembles and folk bands from both the Slovak and Polish parts of Zamagurie. A person is like a tree – uprooted, wandering the world, vainly seeking happiness and peace in the soul. And although the performers from our program were divided by a border over a hundred years ago, their roots are firmly set in the Zamagurie land. At the end of the program, a new book of Zamagurie tales Pastierik on the Golden Cart will be ceremoniously launched, paying tribute to all the storytellers who are no longer with us today, who preserved a unique spiritual heritage of this region through oral tradition for future generations.

Knowledge about breeding, healing of people and animals, distinctive culture, rituals and unique ethical code of behavior were passed down from father to son for many generations. People from the border between the world of humans and animals, the world of the known and the wild, famous and forgotten, redeemed and damned. During the Saturday evening festival, stories of shepherd families, robbers and shepherds from the Levočské vrchy will come to life.
